The Simon’s reagent screens for secondary amines such as MDMA, MDEA and Methamphetamine. By using Simon’s in conjunction with Marquis and Mandlein you can narrow down the possible substances even further.

How to Use INDICATE SIMONS Secondary Amine Reagent
- Prepare a small amount of the substance to be tested and place on a piece of glass or white tile
- Wearing protective clothing, gloves and eyewear, remove the reagent SIMONS PART A from the phial
- Carefully unscrew the cap
- Drip 1-2 drops of SIMONS PART A onto sample and replace cap
- Remove SIMONS PART B from the phial and unscrew the cap. Drip 1-2 drops onto sample
- Drip 1-2 drops of SIMONS PART B onto sample
- Observe colour change over 20 seconds. View under a bright white light
You can buy an Enlighten Simon’s reagent from the buy page.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Read before using this reagent
Simons Reagent PART A contains Acetaldehyde and Sodium Nitroprusside which are toxic. Do not drink, or inhale vapours. Avoid contact with skin and eyes
Appropriate protective clothing, gloves and eyewear must be worn at all times when using INDICATE spot test reagents. Never use INDICATE reagents near areas where food is prepared. Always neutralise any surface spills with a solution of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda); 2 teaspoons per cup of water. Rinse all affected areas thoroughly with water for more than 15 minutes.
A POSITIVE TEST RESULT NEVER IMPLIES A DRUG IS SAFE TO CONSUME
Hazardous Substance Information
DANGER! May be fatal if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through skin. Affects blood, cardiovacular system, central nervous system and thyroid. Skin Contact: May cause irritation, redness, and pain. May be absorbed through the skin, causing systemic poisoning with symptoms paralleling ingestion.Eye Contact: May cause irritation, redness and pain.Chronic Exposure: Repeated, prolonged exposure through any route may cause symptoms similar to iodism or bromide intoxication: skinrashes, weakness, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and confusion.
.Emergency & First Aid Procedures
In case of contact immediately flush eyes or skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing & shoes. Call a Physician. If swallowed and casualty is conscious, induce vomiting until fluid is clear. Call a physician.
Storage Information
Avoid storage with strong oxidising acids. Contact with acid will produce toxic products. Store away from light in a cool, well ventilated area. Keep out of reach of children.
Spot Test Reagents:
- Have limitations, and can only give an INDICATION of the possible presence of a drug or drug type.
- CANNOT DETECT ALL DRUGS and DRUG TYPES.
- DO NOT identify adulterants, drug mixtures and masking agents.
- Are best when employed as colour indicators in Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) applications.
